Painting & Sculpture

I am Influenced by Taoist writing. My work explores the tension between chance and purpose, a tension that overlays my everyday experience. Using found textures and images, I layer materials on the canvas. I work with found elements giving them sculptural dimension and shape. This process is both expressive and random. Much like life itself, through the process of making, the trajectory of my work appears. The placement of color, texture and shape becomes purposeful, themes emerge in this process; themes tied to the routes we all take and the places we end up. Death, distance, and time intersect with us all and the lives that we build. Ultimately, I see this body of work as a reflection of the worlds, scaffolds, and mannerisms humans create to cope with these largely uncontrollable themes.
